June 21, 2010 (San Diego’s East County) – In the early morning hours on Saturday, June 26, sky watchers in our region can see a partial eclipse of the moon, which is visible across much of North America, South America and Asia.

You're also invited to join syndicated “Stargazer” columnist Dennis Mammana on a lunar eclipse campout June 25-26 in the Anza-Borrego Desert. Reservations are required—and past stargazing campouts have sold out quickly.

The eclipse will begin as the moon enters the Earth’s dark shadow at 3:17 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. The eclipse will reach maximum at 4:38 a.m. PDT when about half of the moon will be engulfed in shadow, ending at around 6:00 a.m. PDT.  No filters are needed to view this event!

Times are different in various parts of the world, and can be found here: http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/OH/OH2010.html#LE2010Jun26P. These are given in Universal Time and must be converted to local times with the calculator here: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html.

For reservations for the campout, call Joe Raffetto toll-free at 866.6.EXPLORE or 760.767.1232, or visit http://www.californiaoverland.com/upcoming_events.html
